Tirnaneill

Tirnaneill

Set within a pastoral rural landscape, this project reimagines a mid-nineteenth-century dwelling through a sensitive renovation and the addition of a carefully crafted rear extension.

The intervention introduces a new threshold sequence, accommodating an entrance hall, stairwell, and guest W/C, before opening into a generous kitchen and living space. Anchored by a recessed, sloping terrace, this central living area spills outward onto a sheltered paved courtyard, framing views of the surrounding countryside and extending the rhythms of life to the exterior.

Above, the principal suite is arranged along the northern edge of the new volume, its placement offering both privacy and an elevated perspective over the rural setting.

The extension itself combines robust plastered masonry with a single-storey link clad in burnt larch — a material chosen for its capacity to weather gracefully, softening with time and blending seamlessly into the tones of the landscape.

Through this considered interplay of form, material, and setting, the project aspires to an architecture both contemporary and rooted in its place.
