Annagola

Annagola

Located in a rural setting,  this project envisioned the sensitive transformation of a mid-nineteenth-century, dwelling through a considered internal reconfiguration and the addition of a contemporary rear extension. The new intervention accommodated an entrance hall, stair core, utility spaces, guest W/C, and kitchen/living area conceived as the social heart of the home.

This principal living space was anchored by a recessed, sloped terrace, which framed views toward a paved courtyard mediating between the house and the surrounding gardens, themselves defined and sheltered by existing outbuildings to the north. Above, the upper storey of the addition housed the master suite, comprising bedroom and en-suite, carefully oriented to capture the western aspect and evening light.

Materially, the composition juxtaposed plastered masonry volumes with a burnt-larch timber skin that wrapped the single-storey link element. These finishes were selected for their capacity to patinate gracefully, allowing the architecture to embed itself over time within the rural vernacular, while maintaining a quietly contemporary presence.
